Artisanal foundry – public demonstrations and transmission of know-how
I am developing a contemporary artisan foundry practice, at the crossroads of artistic creation, transmission and respect for the material. My work is expressed through two complementary areas: nomadic foundry work in public spaces and introductory workshops.
Public demonstrations of foundry work
With the nomadic foundry, I offer public demonstrations of metal casting, set up in the heart of public spaces or at cultural and heritage sites. The aim is to showcase an ancestral craft that is rarely accessible outside the workshop and to share it with all audiences. The public can watch the different stages of the smelting process: presentation of the materials, melting of the metal, casting and the first stages of transformation. These demonstrations are accompanied by commentary and are designed to be a time for discussion and discovery. The smelter is solely responsible for handling the tools, the furnace and the molten metal. A strict safety perimeter is always put in place, guaranteeing an immersive, educational and completely safe experience.
These events are aimed at local authorities, festivals, cultural venues, heritage sites and events wishing to offer a powerful, sensitive and unifying activity.
Introduction and transmission in workshops
In addition to public demonstrations, I offer introductory sessions and workshops to discover the craft of metal casting. These sessions are designed to immerse participants in the materials, techniques and time-consuming nature of metalworking. Participants learn the fundamentals of artisanal metal casting, the materials used, the manufacturing stages and the technical constraints of the craft. The approach is progressive, tailored to the audience, and focused on understanding the process rather than performance.
These introductory sessions are suitable for groups, art lovers, or anyone wishing to approach foundry work in a practical and sensitive way.
An approach rooted in recycling and ecology
My work is part of an eco-responsible approach, based largely on the recovery and recycling of metals. Bronze, brass and other alloys often come from scrap, old objects or industrial waste, which are reprocessed through casting. This approach gives the material a second life and questions our relationship with resources, transformation and sustainability. Casting thus becomes both a creative and conscious act, where the metal retains the memory of its past uses while taking on a new form.
